Title
ESS-1E6211 Roman zoomorphic brooch fragment
Description
English: Roman (100-250AD) cast copper alloy brooch fragment, probably part of a zoomorphic duck brooch. The fragment has two projecting lugs on the reverse for the missing hinged pin. The upper surface has a broken projection, possibly from the neck of the duck, with elongated triangular cells extending out from the projection along the surviving length of the brooch. These cells contain traces of blue enamel. The breaks are old and worn. The fragment is 14.14mm long, 11.08mm wide, it is 9.83mm thick including the projection and hinge lugs, and 1.87mm thick excluding them. It weighs 1.8 grams. The fragment is similar to complete duck brooches seen in Hattatt page 237,
