ESS-59DD03 Post Medieval Shoe Buckle
Description
English: Post Medieval cast copper alloy shoe buckle with drilled frame fr a seperate spindle. The frame is sub-rectangular in plan, with the outer two edges expanded with sub-rectangular projections. There is a groove running around the outer and inner edge of the frame. The frame is curved in profile and it has a rectangular cross section. The frame measures 53.80mm by 32.17mm and is 1.98mm thick increasing to 4.03mm where the spindle would have been attached. It weighs 11.23 grams. The surface is slightly worn and there is some damage to the edge of the frame. It has an even green-black patina and there is some copper corrosion. The buckle dates from circa 1690-1720.
