Title |
Early-Medieval to Medieval Buckle plate |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle plate of possible later Early-Medieval to Medieval date. It is missing the frame end and parts of the attachment end due ot old breaks. The plate is flat, square in form, with rectangular frame recesses and pin slot. It has one central circula rivet hole, with further rivet holes in each corner two of which are now incomplete due to old breaks. The front face has extensive tool marks and the remains of a relatively thick gilding. It measures 26.88mm in surviving length, 20mm in width, 1.13mm in thickness, and weighs 3.06g. This buckle plate is of probable later Early-Medieval to Medieval date, perhaps dating to between the 11th and 12th centuries AD if not a little later. |
