Title
Early-medieval : Bead
Description
English: A glass bead, possibly dating to the early medieval period. The bead is cylinder in shape and has a hole through the centre. The bead measures 6.4mm in diameter and is 5.4mm thick. It weighs 0.3g. The bead would have been made by melting glass into a crucible. Then an iron rod would have been used to gather the glass. The glass was then trickled onto the rod, forming the central hole and then it would have been rolled, to smooth the outer surface. The bead is translucent. The surface of the glass is slightly worn. It is turquoiseish-blue in colour.
