Early Bronze Age flat axe, rain pattern decoration
Description
English: Early Bronze Age cast copper alloy decorated flat axe; late Migdale metalworking tradition, c.2100-1900BC; Type - Migdale decorated variant. Butt corners damaged; butt end flat; no stop-ridge; slightly convex sides with no trace of casting flashes; no apparent edge bevel; blade tips damaged; longitudinal sharpening striations on the blade. Faces decorated with longitudinal ?string impressions ('rain' pattern) from the butt end up to two thirds of way down the axehead - the ?string lengths vary from c.5mm to 12mm (majority short). Fine dark green patina with numerous light green pits. Length 146.5mm, width at butt end 27.8mm, width at blade end 75.7mm, thickness 10.9mm, weight 367.7g.
