Early Medieval Ansate or Caterpillar Brooch fragment
Description
English: Copper alloy possible Brooch fragment. Cast fragment of an ansate or caterpillar brooch, comprising a catch plate at one end and about one half of a curving D section bow with a projecting collar part way along its curve. Traces of white metal plating remain on the back of the bow. The form is simpler than many examples ascribed to a Carolingian context, though that is where the type was most common. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-800.

Length: 30.5mm, Height: 20.3mm, Thickness: 5.3mm, Weight: 4.73gms.
