Description
English: Early Saxon copper alloy sword pommel of a highly abnormal shape in plan, a cross pattee with arms of unequal lengths. In elevation it is roughly conical and the underside is concave. The central aperture is sub-square. A very similar piece has been recorded from Ixworth, Suffolk. Its description includes reference to two Danish parallels and a third English find, from Chessell Down on the Isle of Wight (SF-06D971). Length 42mm. Width 23.5mm. Height 13mm. Weight 22.6g. 5th - 6th century.
