Title
Early Roman copper alloy bird brooch
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy bird brooch. The brooch depicts a three-dimensional bird in flight or gliding with wings curved to either side. The head and neck are missing. In plan the bird is 'm' shape; the main body is a pointed oval and decorated with a series of longitudinal cells that one contained enamel. The terminal of the tail is concave thus creating two pointed terminals much like the tail of a swift. The chest tapers to a point, beneath which is an incomplete catchplate. There are two lugs for the pin beneath the tail. The underside of the body is concave.
