Title
Early medieval disc brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Anglo-Saxon (early medieval) cast copper-alloy disc brooch, dating to the period AD c.700-c.1100, missing its pin. The obverse is decorated with a zoomorphic design of a four-legged creature with head and tail facing inwards, surrounded by a cabled border. On the reverse is the catchplate and lug pin with the remains of the hinge. The object has the reddish brown patina commonly found on Anglo-Saxon copper alloy objects. Overall the object measures 22.4mm long, 23.1mm wide, 1.8mm thick (excluding the catchplate and lug pin) and 6.3mm thick (including the catchplate). It weighs 3.9g.

An example of this can be found in A Visual Catalogue of Richard Hattatt's Ancient Brooches, pg. 379, no. 1310, though it is also similar to no. 692 and no. 1311.
