Early medieval sword
Description
English: A copper alloy hilt or top guard from an early medieval, possibly Viking, sword or dagger (9th -11th Century AD). The object is gently curved in profile and pointed oval in plan, giving an over all boat-shaped appearance. There is a broadly rectangular perforation forming a slot for the tang of the blade, 14 mm x 7 mm. The exterior surfaces are undecorated and have a dark brown patina. The interior surfaces have a pale grey coating.

Overall, the object measures 60.1 mm in length, 18.5 mm wide and 17.9 mm thick. It weighs 26.4 g. The
