Title
Early modern copper alloy animal bell (crotal)
Description
English: Cast copper alloy crotal or rumbler bell dating from the early modern period, that is the late 18th or early 19th century. The bell survives in very good condition. It is composed of two hemispheres and a rectangular loop with circular perforation. The loop's cross section is also circular. While the upper hemisphere has only two sound holes, the lower hemisphere has two sound holes connected by a slit. The (probably iron) pea or clanger remains inside. The outside of the bell is decorated with a cast floral or 'sunburst' design. No maker's mark is visible.
