Description
English:

Detail of carved wooden mask with paint removed on tabernacle frame in the Central Hall of Independence Hall.

Early park preservationists removed the multiple paint layers applied over time to portions of Independence Hall's interior. This enabled park professionals to repair these decorative elements, and in the case of this tabernacle mask, better admire the skill of 18th century carver Samuel Harding.
