Description

The East Coast Memorial in Battery Park, New York City.

This monument is a World War II war memorial created by Italian-born sculptor Albino Manca, installed on February 4, 1963, and dedicated by President John F. Kennedy on May 23, 1963. It shows a bronze eagle on a black granite pedestal, between two ranks of 4 inscribed pylons (not seen in this view), aligned with the Statue of Liberty. It commemorates U.S. servicemen who died in coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean during World War II.
