Summary[edit]

Description

He was born in Chesterfield in 1652, and married Hester Rayner. They had three children. He was a successful merchant in London, sometime Lord Mayor, and was one of the first directors of The Bank of England. He was also an M.P. and Mayor of London. Unfortunately he was known as being rather mean, despite being so rich. He died in 1733. The monument is by the Flemish sculptor Rysbrack.

This monument was originally located in Normanton church.
