Deutsch: Nicht alle Erinnerungsstücke, die zum Kontext des 1. Weltkriegs gehören, müssen zwingendermaßen den Jahren 1914-18 entstammen. So verhält es sich auch mit dem "Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs", das auf eine Stiftungsverordnung des Reichspräsidenten Paul von Hindenburg vom 13. Juli 1934 zurückgeht. Anlässlich des 20. Jahrestages des Kriegsbeginns 1914 wurde dieser Orden in drei Ausführungen für Frontkämpfer, Kriegsteilnehmer und Hinterbliebene (Eltern oder Witwen) vergeben und auf Antrag durch die örtlichen Behörden verliehen. Nach vorsichtigen Schätzungen wurden annähernd 10 Millionen dieser Ehrenkreuze in allen drei Ausführungen ausgegeben. In fast jeder deutschen Familie war es also mindestens einmal vorhanden. Gleichwohl ist es der kollektiven Erinnerung weitgehend verloren gegangen. Das hier abgebildete "Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer" wurde meinem Großvater Richard Goetze (1888-1972) am 05. Februar 1935 durch den Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Neumünster verliehen. Die Verleihungsurkunde trägt die Unterschrift des damaligen Oberbürgermeisters Max Stahmer.
