Ekspeditionshytten ”Blæsebælgen” blev bygget i efteråret 1921 og tætnet med sneblokke. Hytten blev opført på Danske Øen i Østcanada og blev brugt som base og til overvintring af den 5. thuleekspedition. Hytten fik navn efter sin vindomsuste placering. Det trak i hytten i de måneder, hvor bræddevæggen ikke kunne tætnes med sne. Både under opholdet ved Blæsebælgen og på de lange slæderejser i Canada og Alaska var skinddragter nødvendige for overlevelse. This Expedition hut, named "The Bellows", was build in the fall of 1921 and sealed with blocks of snow. The hut was build on Danske Øen in East Canada and was used as a base and for overwintering by the 5th Thule-expedition. The hut was named after its windy location. It was draughty in the months, during which the plank walls couldn't be insulated with snow. Both during the stays at the Bellows and the long journeys by dog sledge through Canada and Alaska, skin clothing was a necessity for survival. |
