English: Portrait of Countess Palatine Elisabeth Auguste of Sulzbach (1721-1794) as Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia Elizabeth of Hungary.
Deutsch: "Dem Gemälde liegt ein schriftliches Gutachten von Helmut Börsch-Supan, Berlin, bei. 1766 hatte die Kurfürstin im Gedenken an ihre Namenspatronin Elisabeth von Thüringen, die als Muster einer wohltätigen Fürstin galt, den Elisabeth-Orden gestiftet, der nur adeligen Damen verliehen wurde. Ein 1745 datiertes Gemälde im Kurpfälzischen Museum in Heidelberg zeigt die Kurfürstin in jugendlichem Alter, wie sie einem Bettler ein Almosen gibt. Diesem Bild schließt sich das vorliegende Gemälde an." [1] |
