Elmer Dover Dies On West Coast. Tacoma, Washington; October 5, 1940 (Associated Press) Death yesterday ended the political and newspaper career of Elmer Dover, a native of McConnelsville, Ohio, and one-time editor of newspapers in Akron and Portsmouth. Dover, 67, directed the presidential campaign of Warren G. Harding on the Pacific coast and was appointed assistant secretary of the treasury in 1921. He resigned the following year. He was secretary of the late Mark Hanna during the McKinley presidential campaign in 1896 and was named secretary of the Republican National Committee in 1904.
