Title
English: Employees posing outside McRae & Branigan grocery, Seattle, circa 1910
Description
English:

The photographic postcard pictured here features the staff of McRae & Branigan's grocery on the northwest corner of Bellevue Avenue and Pike Street in Seattle. The individuals are unidentified, but likely among them are store namesakes Frank Aubrey McRae (1866-1942) and James Francis Branigan (1881-1945). Both men came to Seattle with their parents about 1883, and Mr. McRae initially worked at Schwabacher Bros. The two men were business partners from about 1900-1917, after which Mr. McRae worked for the county treasurer's office and Mr. Branigan was an insurance agent.

Postcard is addressed to George E. Tiffany of Binghamton, New York, with the note, "Sept. 21, 1912, Seattle, Washington. We are alright so far, leave here Monday for Portland and then to San Francisco. Only stop a few hours at Portland. How is Mamie? Is Mrs. Sands better? J. E. T." Caption information sources: "Funeral for Frank McRae is Tomorrow," The Seattle Times, September 29, 1942, p. 11; and "James Branigan, Seattle Pioneer, Dies in Hospital," The Seattle Times, April 3, 1945, p. 5.
