Description
Deutsch: Ev. Stadtkirche St. Thomas Leipzig. Ein hervorragendes Werk des deutschen Manierismus ist das Epitaph für den Ratsherrn Daniel Leicher (gest. 1612), das seinen Platz im Raum des östlichen Vorchors hat. Aus schwarzem, gelben und weißem Marmor, die Bildfelder und Skulpturen aus Alabaster gefertigt. Die zentrale Szene erzählt die biblische Geschichte von Leichers Namenspatron Daniel in der Löwengrube. Darüber sieht man den babylonischen Drachen, auf den Gesimsen stehen Tugendfiguren und Putti. Die gestalterische Nähe zum Taufstein weist auf Franz Julius Döteber oder Georg Kriebel als Schöpfer des Denkmals hin.
