Description:

A Post-Medieval gold posy ring, probably from the 17th century. The hoop is D-shaped in cross-section and the ring is circular in shape. The exterior of the ring is plain, and shows little damage. The interior bears the inscription 'Wheare you see this, remembern mee'. The form of letter S is elongated and the W is formed from to intersecting Vs. The hoop is 1.43 mm in thickness.

Dimensions: Diameter 19.3mm. Thickness 3.0mm. Weight 1.29g.

Discussion:

Although there is no identifiable maker's mark, the inscription is recorded from 1596 and the lettering is consistent with a pre-1716 date. The object is therefore likely to be more than 300 years old and is composed of more than 10% precious metal, and therefore should be considered Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
