English: Stopper-Fisted Hermit-Crab

Pylocheles miersii, discovered by Dr. A. R. S. Anderson, in the Andaman Sea, at 185 fathoms. The upper figure (a) gives and end-on view of the animal bottled in its natural tube of water-logged mangrove or bamboo, with its bent 'hands' closing the mouth of the tube like a cork. The lower figure shows the animal in a conventional position after removal from its refuge
