Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Ferndale Cornet band playing for a small gathering outside of the Ferndale bank at 400 Ocean Street in Ferndale, California in 1896. A cornet band was composed of wind instruments and drums and was a type of marching band popularized during the Civil War, hence the military style costumes on the players. The May 12, 1896 Ferndale Enterprise reported "The Ferndale Cornet Band made their debut in their new uniforms last Friday, KofP day...its membership numbers 12 players. W.F. Kausen, leader, Prof. William Kausen, musical dir; I.M. Ring, V.A. Smith, G.W. Kaussen, L.M. Smith, Peter Anderson, P.N. Lund, Will Neiber, Eli Bagley, Will Damon and Peter Larsen.... Photographer Root took several very fine views of the KofP procession in Ferndale last Friday. The pictures can be seen and purchased at Canepa and Aggeler's. ... Camera's were numerous in Ferndale on Friday and many a snapshot was taken at the KofP procession headed by the Ferndale Cornet Band... Notwithstanding the threatening weather and the occasional showers that fell during the day, the K of P dedication and attendant celebration held in Ferndale last Friday, May 8th, under the auspices of Aurora Lodge, No. 51, K of P, was a grand success. By noon our town was filled with people, and as the visiting Knights from other sections of the county arrived, with their friends, they found a most cordial welcome awaiting them. The Ferndale Cornet Band, attired in new uniforms, played selection after selection on the streets as the crowd continued to congregate, and the K of P colors, red, blue and yellow could be seen on every hand...
