Entre los esfuerzos realizados por la iniciativa privada a favor del progreso del Chaco, cabe mencionar el que llevó a la construcción del ramal ferroviario conocido como "Ferrocarril Quijano". Es un ramal de 75 km de largo y 0,75 metros propiedad del Dr. J. Hortensio Quijano, cuyo primer tramo fue construido en 1922 con fines forestales y que, unos años más tarde, sería ampliado hasta su tamaño actual. El desvío comienza cerca de la estación Lapachito, de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, y atraviesa los departamentos de Bermejo, Martínez de Hoz y Tobas en dirección general norte para llegar a la Colonia Zapallar, a unos dos kilómetros de la localidad del mismo nombre. Este ferrocarril no sólo facilita las haciendas particulares de donde surgió, sino que también sirve a los intereses de una gran área que le debe mucho de su progreso, ya que carecía de medios de comunicación prácticos y económicos. Su operación ahora se realiza como un servicio público, ya que en realidad es un afluente de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, una vez que se realiza a través del intercambio de cargas para todo el territorio del ramal, a través de la estación Lapachito. La importancia que tuvo la acción de este ferrocarril para el progreso de la zona, movilizando su producción, se ilustra con los siguientes datos: en los últimos diez años han salido del ramal 142.000 toneladas de troncos; 17.500 toneladas de otros productos forestales -de las cuales casi 10.000 toneladas de tanino- y unas 20.000 toneladas de productos agrícolas, principalmente algodón.

Unter den Anstrengungen, die die private Initiative zugunsten des Fortschritts des Chaco unternommen hat, ist diejenige zu erwähnen, die zum Bau der als "Ferrocarril Quijano" bekannten Eisenbahnsparte geführt hat. Es handelt sich um einen 75 Kilometer langen und 0,75 Meter langen Zweig im Besitz von Dr. J. Hortensio Quijano, dessen erster Abschnitt 1922 zu Zwecken der forstwirtschaftlichen Nutzung gebaut wurde und der einige Jahre später bis zu seiner heutigen Ausdehnung erweitert werden sollte. Die Abzweigung beginnt in der Nähe des Bahnhofs Lapachito, der Staatseisenbahn, und durchquert mit allgemeiner Richtung Norden die Departements Bermejo, Martínez de Hoz und Tobas, um bis zur Colonia Zapallar, etwa zwei Kilometer von der gleichnamigen Stadt, zu gelangen. Diese Eisenbahn erleichtert nicht nur die privaten Bauernhöfe, aus denen sie entstanden ist, sondern dient auch den Interessen eines großen Gebietes, das ihr einen großen Teil seines Fortschritts verdankt, da es ihr an praktischen und wirtschaftlichen Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten mangelte. Sein Betrieb wird inzwischen als öffentlicher Dienst durchgeführt, da er in Wirklichkeit ein Nebenfluss der Staatsbahn ist, sobald er durch den Austausch von Lasten für das gesamte Gebiet der Filiale, durch den Bahnhof Lapachito, erfolgt. Die Bedeutung, die die Aktion dieser Eisenbahn für den Fortschritt der Zone hatte, indem sie ihre Produktion mobilisierte, veranschaulicht die folgenden Daten: Im Laufe der letzten zehn Jahre gingen 142.000 Tonnen Rundholz durch die Filiale hinaus; 17.500 Tonnen andere Waldprodukte - davon fast 10.000 Tonnen Tannin - und etwa 20.000 Tonnen landwirtschaftliche Produkte, hauptsächlich Baumwolle. |
