Description |
English: The sidewheeler "West Seattle" was built in Tacoma for the short run between Seattle and West Seattle. Starting in July 1907, the vessel began service as the second ferry on the run, carrying passengers, buggies, and delivery wagons. In 1920, the "West Seattle" was replaced with a smaller steamer because more people were driving or taking the streetcar between the two parts of the city. In this photo, taken around 1907, the "West Seattle" steams into Seattle with a load of passengers and vehicles. Written on back of photograph: "Seattle first ferry." Information incorrect. The "West Seattle" was the city's second ferry; the "City of Seattle" was the first.
