Description |
English: A 1907 telephone “Hello from the other side, I must have called a thousand times.” –Adele, “Hello” While this probably wasn’t the type of telephone Adele had in mind when she recorded “Hello”, this circa 1907 subscriber’s telephone must have made a thousand calls during its lifetime. This telephone for the Western Electric Automatic Telephone System was reputedly used in the Quincy Mining Company Office by general manager Charles Lawton. It’s been said that during his term as general manager, Lawton used this telephone for direct communication underground. Before telephones were put into place in the mines, a system of bells was used for communication. What kinds of questions do you think Mr. Lawton may have had for the underground workers? |
