Prunus virginiana - native; Alternate names: Bitter-berry, Virginia bird cherry, western chokecherry; Blooms April - July; Although the tart berries have a large pit, they are edible once they turn black. The berries have been a summer staple for many native nations and are still used to make dishes such as wasna (pemmican) and wojapi.
