Summary
[edit]DescriptionFires and Smoke in Canada (MODIS 2019-05-29).jpg |
English: Fires continued to pour smoke into the air in Alberta, Canada in late May, 2019. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the smoky scene on May 27, 2019.
A number of blazes are captured in this image including the large Chuckegg Creek Fire. Visible as a mass of red hotspots under a cloud of smoke, the Chuckegg Creek Fire has consumed about 314,000 acres (127,000 hectares) as of May 28. Hot, dry temperatures fanned the flames as the fire expanded through the day, but the wind helped push the fire away from town of High Level. Chuckegg Creek Fire is located only about 3 km (1.8 mi) southwest of the town of High Level. |
