Summary[edit]
DescriptionFirst Baptist Church of New London.jpg | The First Baptist Church, at 268 State Street at the corner of Washington Street in New London, Connecticut, was built in 1856 at the cost of $25,000 and was designed by W. T. Hallett in the Italianate style. The congregation was founded in 1804 as a spin-off from the First Baptist Church of Waterford. A four-story addition was built at the rear after World War I, when the church was one of the largest Protestant congregations in the city; by World War II it was the largest east of the Connecticut River and the second largest in the state. In 2013, with declining membership, the congregation merged with First Hispanic Baptist Church of New London. The church is part of the Downtown New London Historic District.
