[edit]DescriptionFirst Glasgow bus 31226 (B34 YYS) 1984 Volvo Ailsa B55 Alexander RV, Bridgeton, 9 August 2005.jpg |
English: First Glasgow bus 31226 (reg. B34 YYS), a 1984 Volvo Ailsa B55 double-decker with Alexander RV bodywork, pictured in Bridgeton heading west on the A74 London Road (Landressy Street junction) operating route 43, Craigend to Glasgow city centre.
It was new to Strathclyde PTE as their fleet no. A133, the very last of Strathcylde's 152 Ailsa's, delivered in various batches between 1981 and 1984. It was also the very last Ailsa built for the UK market (another 40 were built the following year, for export to Indonesia). It remained in Glasgow through the deregulation and privatisation period, passing into the fleet of Strathcylde Buses, which eventually became First Glasgow. It was one of the few that lasted in service long enough to receive the First Glasgow allover red livery as pictured here, being assigned the national fleetnumber 31226 in 2003. With its engine having blown while in service shortly after this photo was taken, it appears to have been scrapped. |
