Notes Flag, replica in colours of the standard of the New Zealand King's Empire Veterans Association (NZEVA). This association was formed in1900 under the patronage of Lord Ranfurly as the New Zealand Empire Veterans Association (NZEVA). It was an organisation for retired members of Imperial and Colonial Forces in New Zealand. The organisation changed its name in 1910 to the King's Empire Veterans Association (KEV). Lord Ranfurly also put his support behind the establishment of a home for veterans which led to the opening in 1903 of the Ranfurly War Veterans Home and Hospital at Three Kings, Auckland. In 1918 the objectives of the King's Empire Veterans were stated to be "to relieve distress and aid the weak (and) in indigent cases never allow a member to be buried as a pauper. We use our influence in securing situations for members". Statement by James Stitchbury, Hon. Sec. King's Empire Veterans of Auckland in the Auckland Star, 23 February 1918.
