Description

Flammulaster rhombosporus (G.F. Atk.) Watling

Image location: McClellan Ranch Preserve, Cupertino, Santa Clara Co, California, USA

Growing on eucalyptus debris (cones, leaves, bark or wood pieces).

Odor “fungal”, rather strong, neither farinaceous nor unpleasant.

Spores 8-9 × 5.5-6, hyaline, inamyloid. Couldn’t produce a visible spore print.

Flesh very tin, pileipellis cellular. Clamps in all tissues. Cystidia abundant.

The presence of cystidia eliminates Dermoloma (according to books) and leaves me clueless.
