Description

EAST CHINA SEA (Oct. 4, 2012) Gunner's Mate Seaman Joseph Gillies prepares to shoot an M14 rifle with a Mark 87 mod-1 line throwing kit from the amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) to the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193) during a replenishment at sea. Tortuga is part of the only forward-deployed amphibious ready group and is operating in the U.S.7th Fleet area of responsibility. The U.S. Navy is constantly deployed to preserve peace, protect commerce, and deter aggression through forward presence. Join the conversation on social media using #warfighting.
