Public Transport in Malta The main bus terminus in Malta is in Floriana, while the Gozo main bus terminus is in Rabat. Buses are the main Public Transport on the Maltese Islands. Working on scheduled route, the buses offer frequent service, throughout the island according to their duty roster. Before the Public Transport was organized, bus owners had to work on their own initiative. The competition between the bus drivers was high. They had to struggle to make their living. Many a times endanger the lives of their passengers by overloading their bus with passengers and over speeding to make more trips. When it suited them, AND thats when their pouch was full of money, some drivers use to stop their trips even worst they just stop their journey leaving passengers on the spot. On the other hand, many other driver were not even earning enough money to cover their daily expenses. These factors led to lots of arguments and fights between bus drivers was the order of the day. It was in the early 70’s when the Labour Government led by Dom Mintoff, organized the Public Transport into one group so that the bus owners earn the same income and put to an end the unfair situation - MALTA |
