Need greater checks prior to transfers from Flickr[edit]
Hi. It seems that you are transferring file to Commons that are already here. Please would you take longer checking whether we have the files prior to undertaking transfers. We shouldn't need to be undertaking maintenance tasks / deletions "just because". Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:40, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I would for sure, this is clearly not something I do not do on purpose but often files are renamed from the original and that makes duplicate near to impossible to detect. Maybe I miss some tools to perform this check? Fabe56 (talk) 12:06, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- One simple way is to search for the Flickr file ID here on Commons for one of the photos in the album/photoset.
- For example, for this Commons photo the Flickr URL is https://www.flickr.com/photos/150111929@N04/53531688632/ and the photo ID is 53531688632.
- Before transferring via Flickr2Commons, search for the ID (53531688632) here on Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:MediaSearch&type=image and you can see the photo was already uploaded but with a different name. // sikander { talk } 🦖 16:39, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category[edit]
When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Aires Libres 2019. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). - TIL, thank you @Jmabel! I couldn't find how to manage this situation yesterday. Fabe56 (talk) 12:20, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
Please give images better names[edit]
--Seawolf35 (talk) 23:07, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Please actually check the name of the image prior to transferring it. As far as I can tell that naming scheme DSCFxxxx has no relation to the image itself. Seawolf35 (talk) 23:09, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
February 2024 upload of Montreal-area images as "unidentified"[edit]
Pretty much all of your recent uploaded images that I see in "unidentified locations" in Montreal are IDed in their file names. Is dumping them all into the unidentified folder really necessary? Couldn't you take the time to upload them to their correct folders? Shawn à Montréal (talk) 21:22, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- WIP but yep sorry got some back log since some take some time to identified correctly and I cannot dedicate 100% of my time Wikipedia Commons. Fabe56 (talk) 13:48, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
