"Portrait de Jean François de la Créquy de Bonne, duc de Lesdiguieres (1678-1703) Toile. (Restaurations). 79,5 x 65 cm

Nous rapprochons notre tableau du portrait peint par Rigaud en 1687 (Toile, 81 x 64 cm) et conservé au musée du Louvre (voir S. Perreau, Hyacinthe Rigaud. Catalogue concis de l’œuvre, Sète, 2013, n° P.115, reproduit).

Notre modèle est 5ème duc de Lesdiguières en 1681. Il est présenté à mi-corps devant un entablement de pierre er un paysage. Colonel du régiment de Sault et brigadier des armées du roi, le jeune duc de Lesdiguières meurt jeune au cours de la bataille de Modène en Italie.

Nous avons toujours noté une ressemblance entre le duc de Lesdiguières et le comte de Toulouse. Ce tableau est resté dans le Chateau de Noailles jusqu'en 1980.

De tradition familiale, ce portrait était considéré comme celui d'un des Comtes de Toulouse."
