Mandada construir na segunda metade do século XVIII, está situada no mesmo local onde já existia uma outra fonte de S. Lourenço, esta seiscentista. O seu projecto era para ser grandioso e caro, em que se incluíam estátuas femininas da mitologia greco-romana. Entretanto o projecto com duas cabeças a pensar só suscitou o imprevisto: desentendimento entre estes dois pensantes. Perante isto, a fonte acabou por ficar inacabada, sendo por isso terminada em 2005 pelas mãos da Câmara Municipal.https://www.visitarportugal.pt/portalegre/elvas/elvas/fonte-sao-lourenco |
