| Description |
English: The former Second Congregational Church, located at 45 Broad Street at the intersections of Hempstead and Federal Streets in New London, Connecticut, was built in 1868 and was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the Nichols and Brown firm of Albany, New York. The congregation was split from the First Congregational Church due to overcrowding in 1835. A church was built in 1834-35 at Jay and Huntington Streets, but later burned down, creating the need for this church, which was itself damaged by fire in 1926. In 2013, the congregation had perhaps 75 members, not all of whom were active, and decided to move to nearby Waterford, Connecticut; ownership of the building was transferred to Miracle Temple Church. In Waterford, the congregation was renamed the Waterford Congregational United Church of Christ, and held a service at the Crossroads Presbyterian Church there after the Presbyterian service. In September 2018 the congregation voted to discontinue its separate service, and in October, it voted to dissolve itself at the end of the year.
