Description iconographique:

Vue des fouilles exécutées en septembre 1873 par Théodore Vacquer à l'ouest des ruines de l'église Saint-Marcel, en cours de démolition à l'arrière plan, 13ème arrondissement. On remarque au premier plan toute une série de sarcophages de pierre alignés, les uns d'origine antique (cuves rectangulaires ou à extrémité arrondie), les autres de l'époque mérovingienne (cuves trapézoïdales à couvercle en bâtière plus ou moins prononcée), ainsi qu'une tombe en coffre de dalle de pierre et, à droite, un panneau décoré de sarcophage de plâtre.
