English: Fragment (Egypt), probably 10th century
Description
English: Very fine, sheer linen plain weave fragment with print in black of outlines of characters in left-hand section of Kufic inscription. Below it, wider band of close-set square units formed of grouped heart-shapes with arabesque details. Band contains one almost complete unit on left, complete unit in center, small section of right-hand unit. Torn edge of cloth terminates wide band on both sides, inscription on right.
