Notes "Il dipinto arriva nel Palazzo Reale di Torino nel 1930 proveniente da quello di Milano, ove era giunto da Parma nel 1865, con identificazione del personaggio ritratto come Luigia Maria Gabriella (1688-1713), figlia di Vittorio Amedeo II, ripresa da R. Tardito Amerio (1971). C. Bertana e G. Cambursano (1985) lo identificano invece con Francesco Saverio di Borbone Napoli, datando la tela alla metà del sec. XVIII. Questa attribuzione trova una conferma dal dal confronto con il ritratto di Francesco Saverio (1757-1771), uno dei tredici figli di Carlo di Borbone e di Maria Amalia di Sassonia, conservato al Museo Campano di Capua, assegnabile forse a Francesco Liani e databile al 1758 ca. , nel quale il bambino, a mezzo busto, tiene nella mano destra lo stesso rametto di ciliegie (coincidono anche le misure dei due dipinti)"
