Sie hat mit der für ihre umfassende Bildung berühmten Frau aber keinerlei Ähnlichkeit: Die Marquise besaß eine auffallend lange Nase, hatte deutlichere Augenbrauen und einen größeren Mund. Um 1750, als die Miniatur vermutlich gemalt wurde, waren im Gesicht der Marquise außerdem bereits die Züge einer reifen Frau zu erkennen.1 Die Benennung stützte sich vermutlich im Wesentlichen auf die dargestellten Attribute: Auf dem Tisch sind mathematische Bücher und ein Globus zu erkennen, und im Hintergrund steht ein hohes Büchergestell. Die gleichen Hinweise auf wissenschaftliche Studien sind auch im Gemälde der Marquise von Marianne Loir zu erkennen.
Die starke Gewichtung, die im Porträt der Bildung der Dame zukommt, verdrängt beinahe die erotische Komponente der Miniatur. Auf den Knien der jungen Frau sitzt ein grauer Kater, der beinahe zärtlich und für Katzen eher ungewöhnlich seine Tatze auf den Arm der Dame legt. Dass die Katze hier kein gehätscheltes Haustier ist, sondern stellvertretend für den abwesenden Geliebten steht, verrät das weit aufgeknüpfte Mieder der Dame. Der Spitzenbesatz ist nach unten gerutscht und entblößt einen Teil ihres makellosen Busens. In diese Richtung blickt die Katze, und man möchte glauben, dass sie durch das Spiel mit dem losen Bändel die Dame bald noch weiter entblößen wird. Zu der stummen Sprache Verliebter gehören auch die beiden sich kreuzenden Bäume im Hintergrund. B. P." [1] |
