English: This plan drawing was part of the January, 1922 Report of Completed Works for Battery Ward at Fort Strong (Long Island, Massachusetts) by the U.S. Army Engineers.
Somewhat amazingly, it shows the positions of the obsolete 19th Century cannon battery and its central underground magazine, northeasterly of Battery Ward. The scaled distance between the center of the most easterly gun position at Battery Ward (its Gun #1) and the center of the old battery's underground magazine is about 100 ft. The area in front of Battery Ward is now (in 2010) heavily overgrown with thick brush and small trees. |
