Summary

[edit]
Description

A Giant's kettle found in the woods near Volden outside Tønsberg, Norway, during a hike in October 2015.

A giant's kettle, also known as a giant's cauldron or in Norwegian as "jettegryte", is formed when rapid water moves over uneven surfaces causing the water to swirl. Small rocks in the water can then carve out rounded holes, such as this one. Since no rivers are found nearby, this Giant's kettle was probably formed by meltwater during the last ice age.
