Поскольку местечко Пропойск (ныне город Славгород) принадлежало двоюродному брату А. X. Бенкендорфа Александру Ивановичу Бенкендорфу (1800-1873), можно предположить, что на портрете изображена одна из восьми его дочерей. Если сопоставить возраст девочки и год написания портрета, то наиболее вероятными представляются две кандидатуры: Мария Александровна (родилась 18.07.1833 (34?) - впоследствии супруга Николая Дмитриевича Кропоткина и Александра Александровна (родилась 07.03.1835) - впоследствии жена Петра Петровича Муромцева.
