Notes The boards and endleaves are probably from the 12th century. The upper board has a deep central recess and both boards have the remains of a kermes-red dyed cover skin of uncertain date. Refurbished in the late 19th century, when the box was probably made. X-rays of both boards are in London, British Library, Manuscript Facsimile 800. Leather probably tawed white then dyed red.
