Ende 1883 entwickelt er zusammen mit Wilhelm Maybach einen kleinen, schnelllaufenden Verbrennungsmotor mit ungesteuerter Glührohrzündung bis zur Patentreife. Der nächste Versuchsmotor, seines Aussehens wegen "Standuhr" genannt, bringt 1884 den endgültigen Durchbruch und kommt in verschiedenen Entwicklungsstufen im sogenannten Reitwagen, in der Daimler Motorkutsche und in verschiedenen Booten zum Einsatz. |
