| Description | Federal investigators arrested the governor of the central state of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, and his chief of staff, John Harris, on Tuesday, alleging they tried to personally profit from appointing a replacement for President-elect Barack Obama in the US Senate. Blagojevich appeared in Federal court Tuesday afternoon and was released on bail. US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who announced the arrests, asked people who have information about the governor's behavior to come forward, as the corruption investigation continues.
