Performed by the Pollen Trail Dancers at Grand Canyon National Park's Visitor Center during Archaeology Day 2013, on March 23, 2013. Dance Director A. Brent Chase writes about the Weavers (Sash) dance: “Like magic working through the weaver’s hands the dance depicts the creative spirit of Spider Woman and Spider Man through song, movement and dance.” People have lived in the Grand Canyon area for thousands of years, learning to sustain themselves in this challenging environment. In celebration of Arizona Archaeology Month, Grand Canyon National Park offers a day of special activities during the month of March. www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/arch_day.htm Grand Canyon remains a homeland and a sacred place to a number of American Indian cultures, a point of emergence for some, offering us an opportunity to consider the powerful and spiritual ties between people and place. |
