| Description |
During the month of September, 2012, a parking area opened just north of the gateway community of Tusayan, Arizona on Kaibab National Forest land. The parking area's 100 new spaces serve as parking for the new Tusayan Greenway; additional parking for the seasonal, park-and-ride Tusayan shuttle; and as a trailhead for the Arizona Trail which stretches more than 800 miles from Mexico to the Utah border and shares 6.2 miles of the Tusayan Greenway. NPS photo by Michael Quinn During the summer of 2012, the Arizona Department of Transportation completed improvements to State Route 64 through the town of Tusayan. Roadway work included widening the current five lane divided highway to allow for raised center medians and bus pull outs, and the construction of two roundabout intersections. Enhancements included new sidewalks, granite paths, decorative signage, and landscaping. |
